CHICAGO (June 17, 2025) – Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) praised the filing of an important “friend-of-the-court” brief by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) in support of FPC’s lawsuit challenging the Illinois Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), which bans so-called “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines”, all constitutionally protected arms. The DOJ brief urges the Seventh Circuit to uphold FPC’s victory at the district court and marks a critical step in...

BATON ROUGE, La. (June 19, 2025) – Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced that Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has signed FPC-supported House Bill 407, which repeals residency restrictions and expands access to the right to bear arms in the state. HB 407 is a legislative response to an FPC right-to-carry lawsuit, Mate v. Wescott, that was filed as part of FPC’s work to eliminate unconstitutional residency requirements throughout the United States. Continue reading...

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 20, 2025) – A coalition of public interest organizations today, led by Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and FPC Action Foundation (FPCAF), warned Senators about the far-reaching effects of a provision in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s reconciliation language (Subtitle B, Section 203 of H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act) that would require courts to impose financial bonds before issuing temporary restraining orders or preliminary injunctions against the federal...
Sacramento lawmakers and regulators acting on faulty information to degrade gun rights is nothing new. Nor is it surprising when they work actively with our opponents as they formulate their strategies. Recent actions by the state’s Fish & Game Commission in the area of predator management show what happens when public policy is made in this manner. At a recent meeting of the Commission’s Wildlife Resources committee, recommendations were put forward that would put even stricter protections...
By now, most of you have probably heard that the House narrowly approved their version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” early Thursday morning. This comprehensive budget reconciliation package includes a pivotal provision that eliminates the federal registration requirement for firearm suppressors. Passed by a slim margin of 215–214, the legislation is a huge victory, freeing suppressors from the stringent regulations imposed by the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934. Currently...
For a device that’s not even legal in California (for now!), suppressors are making a lot of news lately. CRPA’s case (Sanchez v. Bonta) is pending here, plus there’s another case in Louisiana. Last week, Congress added an amendment to the “big, beautiful bill” removing suppressors from the NFA. So where are we headed with all this? To help us sort all this out, CRPA TV welcomed back Chuck Michel, President & General Counsel of CRPA. WATCH NOW! As with many other areas of 2A rights...
As partisan gun control bills typically do early in the legislative process, AB 1127 (Gabriel & Stefani) cleared its first major hurdles and is now pending on the Assembly floor. The so-called “Glock ban” bill could soon move to the Senate, where CRPA will need all the help we can get to put a stop to it. While proponents like to claim that the bill simply “eliminates DIY machine guns”, the effect of the legislation is an outright ban on firearms widely and publicly available, and quite...
As reported last week, the May 23rd deadline for bills to pass Appropriations saw, as it usually does, the consideration of a glut of bills in short order. Among that group were three of unique interest to lawful gun owners and federal firearms licensees (FFL’s). In the latest installment of CRPA TV, CRPA Legislative Director Rick Travis joins the show with the great news that all three bills have been defeated. They are: SB 15 – Which proposed to put FFL’s out of business if firearms they...
The Supreme Court today unanimously dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Mexican government against several American gun manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Beretta, Colt, Glock, and Ruger. The lawsuit could generously be called a “reach”, with the Mexican government alleging that the firearm manufacturers were somehow fomenting violence south of the border. While it is vexing that the Court devoted the time and resources to such a frivolous case while other 2A cases could help clarify...
