Living as we do in California, we get a somewhat skewed view of the world. While our state taxes us into oblivion and actively fights against our 2A rights, that’s not the case everywhere.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier recently urged the Supreme Court to strike down a law from his home state that was passed back in 2018. In 2018, then-Governor Rick Scott and a Republican-led legislature passed a law that bans sales of rifles and other long guns to people under 21.
A challenge from the NRA failed in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and the case landed at the Supreme Court in May. Now put in the position of needing to DEFEND the state’s clearly unconstitutional law, Mr. Uthmeier declined.
(In fairness, California AG Rob Bonta also declined to defend one of his state’s own restrictive gun laws back in 2022)
In the latest installment of CRPA TV, host Kevin Small reviews this case and AG Uthmeier’s bold position.
